Filippo Gori Brings Collaborative Leadership to JPMorgan's Banking Division
Filippo Gori, recently named co-head of banking at JPMorgan Chase, quickly gained favor within the bank. “He’s one of our top talents—young and energetic,” said a senior insider, highlighting Gori’s appeal. Gori is expected to introduce a leadership approach that contrasts with the hard-driving style associated with Vis Raghavan, his predecessor.
Gori began his career at JPMorgan in 1999 at the London office after graduating from Bocconi University. He spent more than a decade leading regional operations in Asia before returning to London to take on new responsibilities. His departure from Asia left colleagues disappointed. "He was very well-liked," said a senior headhunter in Hong Kong. Plus, JPMorgan’s market share in Asia increased by more than 200 basis points between 2017 and 2022 under his leadership.
Gori returned to London, expected to bring a cultural shift within JPMorgan’s banking division. “He’ll create a more collaborative environment,” remarked one banker familiar with the internal changes. Gori is also expected to push for greater integration between the commercial and investment banking teams, a strategy some senior bankers previously resisted.
Some are concerned about Gori’s background in sales and marketing in debt capital markets, with a lack of deal-making experience.Investment banking revenues in Asia slipped slightly under his leadership, from 3.2% to 2.8%, according to Dealogic. However, many within JPMorgan believe Gori’s strengths in leadership and collaboration will be crucial for navigating these challenges. His ability to unify different divisions may prove critical to JPMorgan’s future success.
